            - Due to late notification of PGA TOUR requirements about lincesed dealers, Visors will not be available at this year's event. We regret this situation and hope this will not affect your decision about volunteering for the 2008 Cox Classic

  • 2008 Volunteer Incentives:
  • First 500 people to sign up will receive a FREE Cox Classic T-Shirt
    • Eligibility for the prize drawings below is over. Names will be drawn at Volunteer Pick-up and winners will be notified (presence at Volunteer Pick up is not necessary)
      • V.I.P. Parking at Champions Run on Saturday and Sunday and a pair of tickets for any one day to the Legends Club (complimentary food and beverages)
      • Walk with one of the Final Groups on Sunday (determined by the Tournament staff) along with getting your photo taken with the 2008 Cox Classic Champion

It costs $40 to  be a volunteer at the Cox Classic presented by Chevrolet. ( PGA TOUR standards require all volunteers to have a standard dress.)

Benefits of volunteering:

  1. Volunteers will receive the official uniform required by the PGA TOUR       (Cox Classic Polo and hat, $60 value)
  2. Meal provided per shift worked
  3. Free parking and shuttle ride
  4. Weekly volunteer badge ($40 value)
  5. An extra weekly grounds pass for family/friend ($40 value)
  6. The chance to be part of the Nationwide Tour's preeminent event and see future PGA TOUR stars up close and personnel

Volunteer Pick-Up

Volunteer Pick-Up is for volunteers to pick up their Volunteer Packet (Polo, Hat, Tickets, etc.) and meet with their volunteer position contact.  Sam and Louies will provide great food for all volunteers attending the Volunteer Pick-up!

     Date and Time:  Saturday, July 19, 2008 (9:00am - 1:00pm)

More than 1,000 volunteers are needed for the 2008 Cox Classic presented by Chevrolet. Listed below you will find brief descriptions of the various volunteer opportunities available prior to and during the tournament. Volunteer Position Breakdown


 
Position: Caddie
Dates Needed: July 28- August 3
Times: 6:30 a.m. until conclusion of each day
Description: Local caddies are needed each year to assist the Nationwide Tour Players.  Volunteers must be 16 years of age and older, have some golf experience and in excellent health.  If interested, contact the Caddie Master at khndrcksn@cox.net.

Position: Pre-Events
Dates Needed: October through July
Times: Contact the tournament office at 399-1800
Description: Volunteers are needed October through July of each Tournament year to help with various Tournament operations, including bulk mailings, public relations, painting, office help, etc.

Position: Information Center
Dates Needed: July 31- August 3
Times: Morning 6:30a - 12:30p, Afternoon 12:00p - 7:00p
Description: Responsible for directing spectators and volunteers to areas of the golf course. Will need to communicate with security, first aid and volunteer central. Communicate with volunteer director for up to date information regarding play and delays.

Position: Marshal
Dates Needed: July 28- August 3
Times: Morning: 6:30a - 1:30p, Afternoon: noon - close
Description: The Marshal's responsibilities consist of providing control over the gallery, cross walks, ball spotting, rope and gate maintenance for every hole and moving throughout the course during tournament week. This is a standing and/or walking position.

Position: Walking Scorer
Dates Needed: July 31 - August 3
Times: Full Round - approximately 4-5 hrs.
Description: Walking Scorer must be available to work an entire round and walk an entire 18 holes wearing a fanny pack with a palm pilot, data radio, battery pack, and voice radio with his/her assigned contestant. A thorough knowledge of golf is necessary for this position as scoring includes recording statistics on a palm pilot. Computer or palm pilot knowledge a plus. The Tour insists you attend 1 training session on the operation of the palm pilot. You will not be allowed to score unless you attend this training. Position: Standard Bearer
Dates Needed: July 31 - August 3
Times: Full Round - approximately 4-5 hrs.
Description: This is considered a "physical" position, as you will carry a sign for an entire round of golf (approximately 5 hours). We recommend that you should be in good physical health when volunteering as a standard bearer.

Position: On-Course Concessions
Dates Needed: July 31 - August 3
Times: Thurs/Fri. Morning: 6:00a - 1:00p Afternoon: 12:00p - 6:00p
Sat/Sun. Morning: 7:00a - 1:00p Afternoon: 12:00p - 6:00p
Description: Set-up, distribution, sales, and clean up of concession stands, corporate tents, and skyboxes. These volunteers will be responsible for handling money and beverages.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Position: The Golf Channel: Full Round Spotters/Scorers
Dates Needed: July 31 - August 3
Times:

Volunteer must be able to work all four days, Thursday thru Sunday, 9:00a - 6:00p (approximate). TGC personnel prefer working with the same people all 4 days.

Description:

Relay to The Golf Channel Associate Producer information regarding scores, playing order on the fairway, etc. Microphone Operators: Positioned throughout the course to be near players to record sounds of golfers and shots. A basic knowlege of golf etiquette & scoring needed, and availability to work a full round of golf (approximately 9a-6p each day is required).

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Position: Special Events
Dates Needed: July 29 - August 3
Times: Morning: 6:30a - 1:00p Afternoon: 12:00p - 6:30p
Evening: 6:30p - 1:00a Saturday only
Description:

These events include family fun day and fireworks show. Volunteers will be needed to manage crowds, hand out gifts,

set-up and tear down the events.

Position: Admissions

Description: Responsible for ticket sales at admission gates, off-course parking lots, and clubhouse.

Position: Security
Dates Needed: July 28- August 3
Times: Morning 5:00a - 1:00p
Afternoon 12:00p - 8:00p
Description: Responsible for security at various locations throughout the tournament facilities, giving the volunteer the chance to interact with the Players, Tour Officials, Media and Clubhouse personnel. This important position is necessary to maintain the professional atmosphere of the PGA TOUR.

Must be 19 years of age.

Position: Shuttles (for player)
Dates Needed: July 28- August 3
Times: Morning: 9:00a - 1:30p
Afternoon: 1:00p - 7:00p
Description: Shuttling players and caddies from Hole 18 to Hole 1 and to the Clubhouse.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Dates Needed: July 31 - August 3
Times: Morning: 9:00a - 3:00p
Afternoon: 2:00p - 8:00p
Description: Verify scorecards of players and walking scorers on Hole 9 and 18.

Position: Product Distribution
Dates Needed: July 28 - August 3
Times: Morning: 9:00a - 3:00p
Afternoon: 2:00p - 8:00p
Description: 3 Shift Times: Thurs Through Sun. (1st Shift):6 AM - 10 AM (2nd Shift) 9:30 AM - 3:30 PM (3rd Shift) Thursday and Friday only 3:00 PM to 1 hour after play. Load and unload products such as pop and adult beverages for distribution. Lifting involved.

Must be at least 19 years of age.
